Michael Duff makes Swansea City's transfer stance clear on Joel Piroe amid Leeds United interest

Swansea City manager Michael Duff has acknowledged there is a chance that Joel Piroe could be on the move this summer. Piroe is one of the names being linked to Leeds United at present, but it seems the Whites will have plenty of competition for his signature, should they make a move for the forward.

The Dutchman has also been linked with Southampton, Leicester City, Nottingham Forest and Everton and just one look at his goal tally is enough to know why. The 23-year-old, who has one year remaining on his deal at Swansea, has scored 41 league goals in two seasons in South Wales, notching 19 last season in a side that struggled for Championship consistency for large periods under now Southampton boss Russell Martin.

As such, Swansea know that interest in their star man is inevitable and they find themselves braced for bids over the next few weeks as the Championship season edges closer. Piroe is in pre-season training with the Swans at present and Duff has been impressed with his attitude so far, but he has also spoken about the possibility of him moving on before the window shuts on September 1.

“I had some good conversations with Joel at our training camp in Spain last week and he was asking in detail about what I want from him,” said Duff, as per Wales Online.

“Until anything changes we will keep on having those conversations. If he goes, he goes, and if he doesn’t he stays – it is not personal, it’s football.

“I understand he’s the big name at the club and only has a year left on his contract. There will be plans in place in terms of the way we play if he stays, and plans for if he goes.”
