Michael Doyle scores a wonder goal from 50 yards to seal Notts County win over Dagenham

Michael Doyle scored one of the best goals of his career as his 50-yard wonderstrike in stoppage time to secured a 2-1 win over Dagenham in the FA Trophy.

The Irishman booked the Magpies' place in the third round when he struck from just inside the Dagenham half with Elliott Justham out of position.

It capped off a wonderful display from the captain who produced a masterclass in midfield as Notts fully deserved their place in the third round draw.

The Magpies had hit the woodwork in the first half with Sean Shields seeing a cross deflected onto the bar, before Wes Thomas hit the post with a volley.

Joe Quigley missed the Daggers’  best chance when he shot wide at the back post having been picked out superbly by Matt Robinson.

But Notts managed to make a breakthrough in the second half when a glorious pass from Tom Crawford picked out Zoumana Bakayogo.

The left-back galloped down the wing and produced an inch-perfect cross for Kristian Dennis to bag his 11th goal of the season.

But Dagenham produced a spirited response with Quigley firing wide before they eventually hauled themselves level.

A free-kick was whipped into the box and after Ross Fitzimsons did superbly to tip Will Wright’s shot onto the bar, from the following scramble Mitch Brundle forced it over the line.

Notts sent on Kyle Wootton and Enzio Boldewijn in the search of a winner and up stepped Doyle to avoid Notts facing a replay on Tuesday.
