Michael Doyle says 'relegation would absolutely kill me' in Notts County war cry

Michael Doyle sounded a passionate rallying cry to Notts County in their bid to save their Football League status, as he admitted: “Relegation would absolutely kill me.”

The former Coventry City midfielder is hoping to play an influential role in the final eight games of the season as the Magpies look to win their battle to beat the drop.

They face Exeter City at Meadow Lane this weekend knowing a victory, allied with other results going their way, would take them level on points with third-bottom Yeovil.

Having been anchored to the foot of the table for a large part of the season, Notts are in the last chance saloon to drag themselves out of trouble, but Doyle insists they have the quality to do it.

“I knew what I was coming into and keeping the club up would be a massive achievement,” he said.

“It would absolutely kill me to have a relegation on the CV at a club like this.

“It would be devastating, but I know with the quality in our dressing room that we’ve got to believe.

“We can certainly do it. We are not eight points off any more. We are in touching distance.

The impressive Notts County statistic that worries Exeter boss Matt Taylor

“We just have to win our games and get a bit of form going.

“You saw it with Morecambe and Port Vale who got a couple of wins and how far it took them away.

“We are as good as any of those teams.”
