Michael Doyle relishes return of fans as Notts County look to seal play-off place

Notts County assistant Michael Doyle is relishing the prospect of fans to a sold out Meadow Lane on Saturday.

Around 4,000 fans will be allowed back into the stadium as the Magpies take on Weymouth in the National League, and Doyle cannot wait for the game after more than a year of empty grounds.

"The way things have gone you didn't see this moment coming," he said. "To be in this position is brilliant. The place will be rocking.

"We've had glimpses with fans at play-off games. We've had games this season where you can play them on the side of the road and it wouldn't matter.

"I'm more excited than ever to play in front of fans. The game really is nothing without fans."

Notts have won four and drawn one of their five games since Doyle started assisting Ian Burchnall as the team moved to the brink of securing their play-off place.

They will be looking to back-up Tuesday's brilliant victory at Wrexham against a Weymouth side who are 18th and have lost four of their last five.

For Doyle, it has been an eye opening and enjoyable few weeks.

"I'm loving it. I wasn't sure how it would work out but I couldn't turn the job down," he said.

"I'm trying to help as much as I can. The lads have been great and it's a great opportunity.

"I'm trying to be consistent with who I am. The lads know how I am. I'm trying to keep standards high.

"Nothing has changed in my relationship with the players.

"We've picked up and we're in a good place. Good form at the right time and I think everyone is enjoying it.

"Long may it continue. Last couple of games have been against teams fighting for the play-offs. They've been great tests.

"We've looked at them like play-off games. It's been great.

"It was a great performance against Wrexham. First half we were outstanding on the ball.

"You want to replicate that second half but they're level on points with you in the league and always going to have a spell.

"Right from the start of the second half they were throwing balls at us but we dealt with everything and were resilient. Hopefully it's a sign we can manage games a bit better now and see them through.

"We've been on a good run. It builds confidence and momentum. Everyone knows what they want to do and how they want to do it.

"There's real competition to play. Everyone wants to play in these games. With fans back it's something we're looking forward to.

"It's the biggest game of season in a way."
