Michael Doyle promises that his teammates will not give up the fight to keep Notts County in the Football League

Michael Doyle says his teammates will keep fighting to stop Notts County from sliding out of the Football League for as long as it is mathematically possible.

The 37-year-old wore the arm band in Good Friday's much improved performance at Meadow Lane, but could not stop his side from falling to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of MK Dons.

Speaking at full time, manager Neal Ardley said that he felt Notts must win two of their remaining three games if they are to stand any chance of avoiding the drop - and Doyle agrees.

"I think he is probably right," said Doyle.

"But, we can't be looking too far ahead right now. All we can do is look ahead to the next game. That is the most important on for us now.

"We will just keep fighting. I am obviously disappointed. No professional footballer is going to come out jumping about if they haven't won a game.

"We still have everything to play for on Monday at Crawley. We have to keep going and keep battling away for the team and the club.

"If we stay up then we will be jumping around and you will probably see that glint in my eye again."

Results elsewhere have kept the gap between Ardley's side and safety at just two points, with three games left to play.

"It is going to be tough. We are at that stage of the season where we have all played a lot of games.

"We're probably down to the bare bones a bit but that's the same for everybody.

"We are in a situation where we are fighting for our lives and it is tough to take.

"I am fine. I am probably one of the lucky ones. I haven't had many knocks lately.

"I am disappointed for everyone.

"Last week we let ourselves down and there wasn't much in that performance, but today we left it all out there and the crucial moments cost us."
