Michael Dawson warns Nottingham Forest players and fans over promotion hopes

Nottingham Forest defender Michael Dawson has warned his teammates they must stay level-headed down the stretch.

The Reds are in the thick of a promotion battle, sitting in fourth place and just four points off the top two.

A sense of excitement is beginning to build around the city, particularly ahead of Saturday's big showdown with promotion rivals Leeds.

But while discussing just how special it would be to win promotion with the Reds, Dawson has warned he, his teammates and indeed the whole city must maintain a sense of calm.

"I remember actually being at the City Ground when they lost to Manchester United 9-1, it was in the Premier League 21 years ago," he recalled on BBC Radio 5Live.

Dawson continued: "A club the size of Nottingham Forest, how it has been that long, but it just shows how hard the Championship is to get out of.

"But look, the reward now to get back in the Premier League, for me, it's the best league in the world, it's incredbile.

"I have been fortunate enough to play there for a long time and what it would be to get Nottingham Forest back, a club with history and living in the city, you know what it's like, it's Forest.

"The city is starting to erupt, but we just need to keep calm, one thing Sabri (Lamouchi) has done, he has come in and kept calm from minute one, made sure everyone knows their aims.

"You never know what can happen in the last 16 games. You have to keep level-headed, you have your ups, you have your downs and that's something the gaffer has done."
