Michael Dawson sends warning to Tottenham and Nuno Espirito Santo ahead of Aston Villa clash

Tottenham Hotspur are in desperate need of a win against Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon.

Spurs have lost their last three Premier League fixtures, falling to Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Arsenal whilst conceding a whopping nine goals in the process.

The Lillywhites endured a torrid first half against the Gunners last week, with Bukayo Saka, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Emile Smith Rowe all netting within the first 35 minutes as head coach Nuno Espirito Santo garnered considerable criticism for his tactical plan.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss will be hoping he can turn things around this weekend as his side host Aston Villa at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

Spurs managed to pick up a win in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday night, defeating Slovenian outfit NS Mura 5-1 as England captain Harry Kane netted a hat-trick, a win that they will hope can give them some momentum for the game against Dean Smith's side.

Now, former Tottenham centre-back Dawson has told his old side not to underestimate the Midlands club because of a big midweek win.

“Spurs beating them [Mura] 5-1, it’s what you would expect,” Dawson said on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday.

“5-0 would have been better, of course it was, but is it a confidence booster? It’s nice for Harry to get three goals but he’ll realise that was no test.

“That was no test on Thursday, they turn up, they expect to get a bagful but they got the job done.

“It’ll be a different game against Aston Villa.”

Spurs lost 2-1 to Villa at home last season, with Steven Bergwijn's opener cancelled out by an own goal from Sergio Reguillon before English frontman Ollie Watkins netted the winner.
