Michael Cuisance to Leeds United: 'Deal 'collapses after failed medical, Rodrigo de Paul demand

Leeds United were seemingly closing in on the signing Michael Cuisance from Bayern Munich.

According to reports, Leeds had agreed a deal with the European champions for the midfielder with a deal expected to be announced shortly.

However, several reports on Thursday claim the deal has now fallen through, with the midfielder now heading back to Germany with the Whites looking to alternative additions.

The Whites have until October 5 to get their international transfer business done in the current window.

Udinese midfielder Rodrigo de Paul had been heavily linked but Cuisance looked likelyto be the club's next signing.

Here is a round-up of everything we know so far about Cuisance's future and Leeds' quest to sign him...

Cuisance deal collapses

Leeds United's hopes of landing Cuisance have been dashed after reports claim the deal has fallen through.

The Whites looked set to land the midfielder after a fee of around £20million was agreed with Bayern Munich.

However, reports on Thursday night from Sky Sports and The Athletic claim that Cuisance has flown back to Germany after the deal had collapsed.

The Athletic claim Cusiance failed his medical whilst transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that the deal fell through after an agreement couldn't be reached on the structure of the deal.

Absent from Bayern cup win

Bayern Munich added another trophy to their well-stocked cabinet on Wednesday evening when they saw off rivals Borussia Dortmund 3-2 at the Allianz Arena to lift the DFL-Supercup.

One man who was noticeable by his absence from the squad was Cuisance, despite a claim from boss Hansi Flick that the Frenchman would be in his squad, if they were available.

"Both [Cuisance and Martinez] trained today," he said on Tuesday. "I assume both will be in the squad tomorrow. We all know that, shortly before the transfer window closes, the situation is not easy."

Cuisance's absence is another indicator that Leeds are close to getting a deal over the line.

Deal agreed

Leeds United have agreed a £20million deal with Bayern Munich for Cruisance, report the Athletic.

The midfielder struggled for regular game-time last season and only made nine league appearances in the Bundesliga.

The French international could have a medical as early as Wednesday, with suggestions that Bayern have inserted a buy-back clause in the deal.

It appears Cruisance will be the Whites' final piece of transfer business of the summer, with the arrival taking their spending to £80million.

Early signs

Soon after Leeds were first publicly linked with Cuisance, German outlet SportBild suggested that Bayern were not willing to let the player leave in this window.

Bayern have already lost Thiago Alcantara to Liverpool, and with Javi Martinez's future reported to be uncertain, it was said there would be "no approval" from the Bavarian giants for a potential exit.

Other targets

Messaggero Veneto reported that Rodrigo De Paul is looking increasingly likely to stay at Udinese.

The Pozzo family's reluctance to drop their asking price below €35-40m has made a move to Leeds difficult to pull off.

Udinese are set to add to their midfield with Watford Roberto Pereyra but he is likely to be an addition to De Paul rather than a replacement.

Norwich City's Todd Cantwell has emerged as another possible target for Leeds, along with Cuisance.

Advanced talks

Leeds' bid to sign Cuisance is back on, according to L’Equipe.

The club have reportedly agreed terms with the 21-year-old, with just a fee to be arranged with Bayern Munich.

An offer of €20million (just over £18m) is said to have been tabled.

Cuisance will apparently sign a five-year deal at Elland Road.

Phil Hay of The Athletic tweeted: "No comment from Leeds United but reports of serious interest in Bayern Munich midfielder Michael Cuisance are accurate.

"Talks have taken place and all sides are open to the possibility of a deal. One to watch closely this week."

Left out

Bayern Munich's team selection for Sunday's Bundesliga game against Hoffenheim certainly raised eyebrows, with Cuisance nowhere to be seen in the squad.

It could well suggest that the Frenchman is on his way out of the European champions.

Bayern crashed to a shock 4-1 defeat against Hoffenheim, ending a run of 23 successive victories.

With Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Perisic's loans coming to an end over the summer and Thiago joining Liverpool, it looked set to be a big season for Cuisance at Bayern Munich after he struggled for first-team football last year.

That makes the fact he was not named in Hansi Flick's squad even more surprising.

Flick said post-match that he had chosen Jamal Musiala over Cuisance for tactical reasons.

He said: "Musiala was in the squad instead of Cuisance because he did very well recently."

Rivals in the race

French club Marseille have also been linked with the former Borussia Monchengladbach ace.

However, they are reportedly only able to take the playmaker on loan, whilst Leeds are offering a permanent transfer, making them favourites.

Deal agreed

Bild's Christian Falk has tweeted that Bayern Munich have given permission for Cuisance to leave the club.

It suggests a deal has been done between Leeds and the German champions, with the Whites set to pay a reported £18m fee.

Cuisance is said to be keen on more first-team football, which has made the move to Elland Road more appealing.
