Michael Conlan's St Patrick's Day opponent Belmar Preciado vows to shock Madison Square Garden

Belmar Preciado reckons Irish fight fans will remember him for all the wrong reasons.

Unbeaten Belfast featherweight Michael Conlan meets the durable Colombian in his 14th fight at New York’s Madison Square Garden on St Patrick’s Day.

Preciado has won 20 of his 23 outings but has never fought in the USA.

However, he said: “The fans will be there to see Conlan, but they will remember me. I am more than just another opponent.

"When I win, I won’t be surprised.”

Two-time Irish Olympian Conlan will get a world title shot if he wins next month but he’s not overlooking the Colombian.

“I’m honoured to return to the Garden,” he said.

“I know how tough Preciado is, but this fight is a test as I continue on my path towards becoming a world champion.”
