Michael Conlan's ring walk had everyone buzzing ahead of win over TJ Doheny

Michael Conlan knows how to get a crowd going.

The Belfast man walked out to a live version of Irish ballad Grace for his WBA Interim featherweight world title fight with TJ Doheny on Friday night at Falls Park and the fans in attendance were clearly buzzing, as were plenty of others watching from home.

Conlan impressed to claim a unanimous points victory at Falls Park.

One judge scored it 119-108, with two others marking it 116-111 in favour of the unbeaten 29-year-old who stretches his record to 16-0.

But fans couldn't get enough of Conlan's ring walk prior to the main event bout.

One person tweeted: "No better ring walk in world boxing than @mickconlan11."

Another said: "Michael Conlan's ring walk never fails to impress."

Someone else commented: "What a ring walk @mickconlan11 unbelievable Falls Park pumping."

"What a ring walk Michael Conlan," read another tweet.

Conlan controlled proceedings from the opening bell, keeping Doheny at distance with his jab and also landing some punishing body shots.

One of those shots took its toll in the fifth, with Doheny forced to take an eight count, the former world champion in obvious distress.

Credit to the Portlaoise native, Doheny tried to apply pressure throughout the fight, but he found little joy as Conlan proved too evasive.

A final round crescendo saw both fighters go toe to toe in the final seconds, sending 8,000 fans at Falls Park into raptures, but there was only going to be one clear winner.

The win now sets up Conlan for a shot at a world title, with two options available.

By winning the WBA Interim featherweight title he could go on to challenge WBA champion Leigh Wood.

He could also drop back down to super-bantamweight to fight the winner of WBO champion Stephen Fulton and WBC belt holder Brandon Figueroa who meet in September.
