Michael Conlan ruled out of December bout on Tyson Fury undercard with ankle injury

Michael Conlan has been forced to pull out of his next fight on December 5 with an ankle injury.

The Belfast boxer, who was due to fight on Tyson Fury's undercard, has suffered a serious ankle ligament injury that is set to rule him out of action for 8-12 weeks.

Conlan said he was "devastated" after rupturing his ATFL (anterior talofibular ligament) during a training session on Wednesday, reports Belfast Live.

The 28-year-old shared a photograph of his swollen ankle on social media, alongside one of him wearing a protective boot.

He said on Twitter: "Absolutely devastated to announce I will no longer be fighting December 5th due to rupturing my ATFL during a training session on Wednesday, back home now recovering. Doc said I’ll be out for 8-12 weeks but I’ll be back sooner, just watch!"

Conlan was due to fight former WBO world super-bantamweight champion Isaac Dogboe in a world-title eliminator in London on December 5.

It was hoped that a win for Conlan would set up a world title shot on St Patrick's Day next year.
