Michael Conlan reveals ankle injury as Belfast boxer is ruled out of December return

Michael Conlan has been forced to pull out of his next fight on December 5.

The Belfast boxer has suffered a serious ankle ligament injury that is set to rule him out of action for 8-12 weeks.

Conlan said he was "devastated" after rupturing his ATFL (anterior talofibular ligament) during a training session on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old shared a photograph of his swollen ankle on social media, alongside one of him wearing a protective boot.

He said on Twitter: "Absolutely devastated to announce I will no longer be fighting December 5th due to rupturing my ATFL during a training session on Wednesday, back home now recovering. Doc said I’ll be out for 8-12 weeks but I’ll be back sooner, just watch!"

Conlan was due to fight former WBO world super-bantamweight champion Isaac Dogboe in London on December 5.

The bout - scheduled for Tyson Fury's undercard - was due to be a world title eliminator.

It was hoped that a win for Conlan would set up a world title shot on St Patrick's Day next year.
