Michael Conlan releases video footage of moment he suffered serious ankle injury

Michael Conlan has released video footage showing the moment he sustained a serious ankle injury in training.

Conlan ruptured his anterior talofibular ligament and split his calcaneofibular ligament during circuits last Wednesday.

He is expected to be out for 8-12 weeks, potentially delaying his ring return until next March.

Conlan was due to face Isaac Dogboe in a world title eliminator on December 5, on the undercard of Tyson Fury's next fight.

Sharing the video of his injury, Conlan tweeted: "The moment I bust my ankle."

In the video, you can see Conlan jumping over a bench during the circuits session before his right ankle gives way.

He immediately recoils in pain on the canvas as other boxers and trainers come to his aid.

Speaking to Belfast Live Sport last week, Conlan said: "I was doing an exercise on the bench and came down wrong on my foot," Conlan said.

"I knew straight away it was a bad one. I thought I had completely snapped my ankle. I didn't even look down.

"It was extremely painful. I lay in the centre of the ring and my coach Adam (Booth) helped with the boxing boots. I was actually lucky I was wearing them as they gave the ankle some support.

"If I wasn't wearing those boots then dear knows what would happen."
