Michael Conlan asks for Olympic medal after investigation findings

Michael Conlan has asked for an Olympic medal to be posted him after the findings of an investigation into boxing at the 2016 Games were reported.

Conlan suffered a controversial points decision defeat to Vladimir Nikitin in Rio, after which the Belfast fighter blasted amateur boxing as being “corrupt”.

A major investigation has identified seven to 10 suspicious matches where bout manipulation is likely to have taken place.

It is believed that one of those bouts involves Belfast boxer Conlan, who lost in the quarter-finals in Rio.

More details are expected on Thursday when Professor Richard McLaren, who carried out the 2016 investigation into allegations of state-sponsored doping by the Russian Federation, will address the media in Lausanne.

Responding to the news, Conlan joked: "Wow, shock horror!@Olympics can you post me my medal now"

Conlan went on to avenge his defeat to Nikitin in the professional ranks, beating the Russian in convincing fashion at Madison Square Garden back in 2019.

He is now 16-0 as a pro and recently outclassed TJ Doheny at Falls Park to claim the WBA Interim World featherweight title.
