A walking stick which once belonged to Michael Collins was sold at auction this evening for over €10,000 at auction this evening.
The rosewood and silver cane was only expected to fetch between €2,000 and €4,000 but such was the interest in the Big Fellow's stick it went under the hammer for around €10,500.
It was sold at De Vere's auction house in Dublin and came from the collection of Dublin man John (Jack) Cormack who was Michael Collins' driver and who was shot in the leg and hand at the Red Cow in Dublin in 1921.
The Irish patriot gave the stick to Mr Cormack and it has remained in the family since.
Jack Cormack's granddaughter, Sinead, later inherited the cane.
