Michael Collins' first-half spark not enough as Kyler Murray, No. 9 Oklahoma rout TCU

FORT WORTH, Texas _ Backup quarterback Michael Collins provided a much-needed spark. It just wasn't enough to rally TCU past Oklahoma.

The No. 9 Sooners proved to be too much for the Frogs, pulling away for a 52-27 victory on Saturday afternoon at Amon G. Carter Stadium. TCU falls to 3-4 on the season, the first time it is sub-.500 since 2013 when it went 4-8.

OU quarterback Kyler Murray showed why he's in the Heisman conversation, throwing for 213 yards and four touchdowns with another 51 rushing yards. And running back Kennedy Brooks had the best day of his young college career, rushing for 168 yards and a TD for the Sooners.

It appeared the Sooners were on pace for a rout early on, jumping to a 28-7 lead midway through the second quarter.

TCU had gained just 21 yards in three offensive series with starting quarterback Shawn Robinson, prompting the move to Collins. And Collins didn't disappoint when he entered.

Collins pulled TCU to within 28-24 by halftime, leading two TD drives and a field goal drive.

Collins found KaVontae Turpin for a 41-yard touchdown pass on his third play of the game, and then connected with Jalen Reagor on a 33-yard fade for a score on the next offensive series to pull TCU to within 28-21.

Along with Collins, Turpin had a standout game with the TD reception as well as a 99-yard kickoff return that tied the game at 7-7. Turpin had another nice return to set up Collins' TD pass to Reagor.

In the end, though, it wasn't enough to overcome Oklahoma. The Sooners haven't lost consecutive regular-season games this century, and were determined not to end that streak following a loss to Texas in the Red River Showdown two weeks ago.

Oklahoma extended its winning streak over TCU to five straight games, and has taken seven of eight since TCU joined the Big 12 in 2012.
