Michael Carrick's spat as six Man Utd interim boss candidates interviewed

It's all change at Manchester United with Michael Carrick taking charge of first-team affairs for their Champions League win against Villarreal on Tuesday night.

But his time at the helm of the Old Trafford club may not last for long with the hunt for an interim coach to take charge until the end of the season said to be well underway.

Carrick's Carrington training ground incident from 2018 explains why the Red Devils board were confident he is the right man for the job, for now at least.

But a number of top names have been linked with the role on an interim basis, even though whoever gets the job could find themselves out of work come the end of the season.

That is because the club are said to be eyeing up Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino as their number one target, who has met with his own bosses to discuss his future following speculation he could take up the reigns at United.

Here are Mirror Football's latest Manchester United headlines.

Carrick's training ground spat

Michael Carrick is an unassuming character, but when Paul Pogba walked into training celebrating Jose Mourinho's sacking in 2018 the interim United boss wasn't afraid to put him in his place.

At the time Carrick was working as a coach for the club but the incident made quite the impression on those around him and could go a long way as to why he's now been placed in charge at Old Trafford.

Pogba and Mourinho never really saw eye to eye during their time together at Old Trafford, but that didn't stop Carrick going in on the United midfielder.

Pochettino's emergency PSG meeting

He may be United's number one choice to become their next manager, but Paris Saint-Germain don't seem like they are willing to have him leave just yet.

After news broke over the weekend that the Red Devils would target the Argentinian, PSG sporting director Leonardo went to visit him at the hotel in which he currently lives.

The pair held an emergency meeting as the PSG porting director tried to 'take the pulse of the situation and gauge his desires to leave'.

Interim boss candidates named

The six names Manchester United have targeted to become their caretaker boss until the end of the season have been revealed.

The Old Trafford hierarchy have already been holding interviews and have now formulated their shortlist of candidates for the temporary role.

They include a former Barcelona boss, an ex-Dortmund manager who knows Jadon Sancho well and a manager with a strong track record in France's Ligue 1, among others.

Whatever decision the United board make will be a big one, with plenty of football still to be played and a big chance of still being able to turn the club's ailing season around.
