Michael Carrick names his dream Manchester United six-a-side team

Michael Carrick has chosen Rio Ferdinand to play as a goalkeeper in his dream Manchester United six-a-side team.

The current United coach has picked himself along with five former teammates as part of his ideal team from his playing career at Old Trafford.

Carrick played in front of two legendary goalkeepers in Edwin van der Sar and David de Gea during his time at United, but it is Ferdinand who he has picked in net.

The former United defender featured in goal when Sir Alex Ferguson's side crashed out of the FA Cup quarter-finals against Portsmouth in 2008, conceding a penalty to Sulley Muntari when substitute keeper Tomasz Kuszczak had been sent off after replacing the injured Edwin van der Sar.

Although the selection in goal was tongue-in-cheek Carrick didn't hold back outfield by selecting himself along with club legends Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Rio went in goal once, so I’m saying Rio can play half-and-half," Carrick told the official club website.

"I apologise to David (de Gea) and Edwin (van der Sar), but I want an outfielder. I’m going Rio, Scholesy, Giggsy, Wazza, Ronaldo.

"I’ll go all from the past then so that I’m not putting anyone in from the current team – I’m not leaving anyone out then. I’ll put myself in as a sixth. I’ll be like a centre-back. I had to cover for Rio enough as it was, so I’ll let him go in goal!”
