Michael Carrick clashes with Liverpool fans during Man Utd match at Anfield

Manchester United coach Michael Carrick was involved in a clash with Liverpool fans at Anfield.

The two fierce rivals faced off at Anfield as United attempted to end Liverpool's unbeaten run.

Despite a strong start from the visitors, Liverpool took the lead through defender Virgil van Dijk.

The Dutchman rose highest to head in a corner to put the Premier League leaders on course for another three points.

Shortly after the goal, United assistant coach Michael Carrick was furious with a decision to award Liverpool a corner.

The former midfielder was furious with fourth official Jon Moss over Craig Pawson's decision.

And after venting his frustrations, Carrick was clearly annoyed with something that was said from the home support.

He was involved in a heated exchange with Liverpool fans behind the United dugout as the visitors lost control of the encounter.

United's task was made even harder after Marcus Rashford missed the clash with a back problem.

Rashford limped off shortly after coming on during the FA Cup win over Wolves in midweek.

And boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed he is set for a spell on the sidelines.

Solskjaer said: "He got a couple of knocks [against Wolves].

"He’s had trouble before and we wanted to give him time to recover and rest properly before throwing him back in. He’s always recovered quickly before.

"I wouldn’t expect him to be back in the next few weeks."
