The epic Mini chase in Sixties classic The Italian Job has been named the best movie car scene ever.
Led by Cockney criminal Charlie Croker, played by Michael Caine, the six-minute extravaganza features three Mini Coopers leading police on a merry dance through the streets of Turin.
Harry Potter and Ron Weasley chasing the Hogwarts Express in a flying Ford Anglia came second.
There are entries from other much-loved movies including Grease and Thelma and Louise but The Italian Job is the only film with two spots in the top 10, coming in sixth with its famous finale – literally a cliffhanger.
According to the survey of 2,000 film fans for Jardine Motors Group, more than a quarter of adults are likely to enjoy a film more if it features cars.
James Bond’s Aston Martin DB5 did not make the top 10 but it was voted the most iconic silver-screen car.
Jardine’s Alex Brown said: “There are so many memorable moments featured in classic films where cars are the true stars – although not forgetting the stunt drivers who sat behind the wheel.
“It’s these scenes that have made certain movies so unforgettable.”
