Michael Burton is ready to be an underrated asset for Redskins

The Washington Redskins are going old school under interim coach Bill Callahan, which includes working a fullback right back into the proceedings.

The Redskins worked out Michael Burton early this week and signed him. After a practice, he noted the fact most teams don’t even roster his position anymore can be an asset for his new team.

“They don’t see it in practice all the time,” Burton said, according to NBC Sports Washington’s Peter Hailey. “When you play that team that hasn’t seen it, it’s difficult to prepare for that in a week… I think it just adds another element to the offense.”

The NFL has largely transitioned away from this sort of running but the prep element of it mentioned makes some sense. And getting an extra blocker out in front of Adrian Peterson has been very viable in the past, to say the least.

With Callahan’s first game as coach featuring Peterson as a 100-yard rusher again, it isn’t surprising to see things trend in this direction.

If Callahan ends up being correct in this trend, both Burton and Peterson could have a very fun second half of the season.
