Michael Buble shows classy side again as he surprises RTE broadcaster Marty Whelan in 3Arena

RTE broadcaster Marty Whelan was left speechless when Michael Buble sang happy birthday to him at his 3 Arena gig on Friday night.

The Feeling Good star took to the stage for a second night at the Dublin venue with a special surprise in store for Marty, who had just turned 63.

To the delight of his captive audience Canadian crooner Buble told Marty: “You are one of my favourite human beings in the world.

“In a business full of shady people you are a class act. You are a beautiful man. A very sweet man.”

Buble sang happy birthday with one of his sons in his arms as a cake was wheeled out - and then shared a hug with Winning Streak host Marty.

The pair struck up a rapport five months ago when Marty interviewed the Canadian singer for his morning show on Lyric FM.

The veteran broadcaster later shared a video of the sweet moment on social media and tweeted: “I’m rarely speechless but this kindness from Michael Buble blew me away.”

Several Irish celebrities were quick to wish the popular RTE man a happy birthday, including colleague Miriam O’Callaghan.

The Prime Time presenter wrote: “Congrats Marty and happy birthday - couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.”

Former Mrs Brown’s Boys star Rory Cowan posted: “Oh now, that is special. Amazing! Happy birthday.”

Buble, who took a step back from the limelight after his five-year-old son Noah was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2016, is well known for surprising fans at his live gigs.

During his first 3 Arena gig on Thursday he serenaded 90-year-old fan Mary Kelleher who then joined him in a duet of Vera Lynn’s ‘You’ll Never Know’.

While in December of last year he helped young Irish couple David O’Reagan and his girlfriend Ashley get engaged on RTE’s Late Late Show.
