Michael Beale was wrong Rangers appointment as his pathetic in-game management against Celtic proved - Hotline

Scottish football looks set to be painted green and white in the coming weeks as Celtic made it three straight wins over Rangers to stand on the verge of the Treble. And it all means Gers fans on the Hotline are feeling just a little blue.

Michael Beale, Ryan Kent, Alfredo Morelos - there was plenty of flak heading Ibrox way. Let’s start with the Celtic supporters though. Kenny Wilson emailed: “Yet again Rangers can’t beat us when we’re not even at our best. The defence was outstanding, especially Cameron Carter-Vickers who was different class. Another treble is odds-on now - that’s five in seven seasons.” Arrin Geddes, Irvine, said: “Beale and his players have a belief that they are close but they can’t win against this Celtic team because they aren’t close enough. Joe Hart didn’t have much to do against Rangers, they just don’t have it in them.”

Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, added: “After supporting Celtic for over 40 years, if there has been a more dominant performance in central defence in a Old Firm match than Carter-Vickers then I’ve not seen it. It will be a travesty if he’s not named player of the year.” Over to Rangers now and there was no holding back the fury. James Thompson, Clydebank, said: “This Rangers team lack quality and I’m just glad that Morelos is going. Kent and Sakala and a few others need to go too. Once again this mediocre team have failed and let down their club, fans and themselves.”

Andrew Adams, Kirkcaldy, said: “I said at the time Rangers had to get the right man in place and Beale was the wrong appointment. Nothing’s changed my mind but in his defence Sakala has to score, no composure. The new board have a big decision to make, they have to get it right this time.”

Rob McNab, Dunoon, blasted: “Team selection was wrong, in-game management was pathetic, Celtic didn’t even need to get out of first gear. Hart could have got a basin out and gave his hair a wee wash as he wasn’t needed. Sorry, but Beale isn’t the man and there are few players that should stay at the club.”

However, Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, said: “Beale inherited this present Rangers squad of under achievers and cannot be criticised. Even ex-players are jumping on the bandwagon. Beale will be judged next term when he signs his own group of players and only then and if he fails then have your say to replace Beale. If the Rangers board had reinvested Gio van Bronkhorst would still be in charge and it would be Rangers going for the treble not Celtic.”

But Tam Scott, Fife, said: “I’ve got to laugh at Michael Beale and supporters saying this is not his team and judge him when he brings his own players in. The Aberdeen team was not Barry Robson’s but he’s managed to turn it round. The Motherwell team was not Stuart Kettlewells team but he manage also to turn it round. Both have proved team management makes the difference.”

There was criticism reserved for those in the stands too after TV viewers’ struggled to pick out anything going on thanks to the pyro brigade. Kevin Lord, Drylaw, said: “Surely if people are paying good money for pay per view, the least they deserve is to see the pictures. When are the police going to do their job and search fans for smoke generators? No chance of smuggling a wee plastic bottle of water in though.”

And John Caw emailed: “It’s a total disgrace these idiots with flares should be allowed in to a game. Ban them for life.” Finally a call from the Highlands to salute Inverness - and their goal centurion.

Harry MacDonald, Inverness, said: “Congratulations to my home team and well done Billy Mckay on hitting 100 goals for the club. An incredible achievement, With Billy on this form hopefully the season will end in glory.”
