Michael Beale must be planning Rangers rebuild with Monopoly money and his total inexperience is showing – Hotline

Michael Beale was front and centre as Hotliners weighed up the enormity of the task facing the Rangers manager as he rebuilds a squad that has been second best to Celtic all season.

And while a couple of callers believe he will succeed, the majority reckon the Londoner faces a long, hard road in the coming months. Eddie Easson, Ballingry, asked: "Can Beale turn Rangers round? Do the board trust a novice manager with a big transfer pot? Remember a lot of these so-called failures were there when he was head coach. He showed his total inexperience when he subbed Morelos for Hagi, a goalscorer off and a winger on.

"The statement he should’ve made after the game was that Kent and Morelos had played their last game for Rangers. Neither have shown any interest in the last couple of months." Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, said: "I was surprised to read Charlie Nicholas say Michael Beale must get tough with the Rangers board.

"It was blindingly obvious he was appointed when no war chest was available for any more high-profile candidate. Bringing in players from Norwich City won’t have Ange Postecoglou losing sleep and if anything the gap in quality will be even bigger next season."

Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: "As I sit here worrying about Rangers taking over Scottish football next season with this massive overhaul Mr Beale is planning, I think to myself 'what’s he buying all these players with?'

"Magic beans? Monopoly money? For years now we’ve heard the same old statements and all they have won is a Scottish Cup and a league that was handed to them by Neil Lennon. No sleep is getting lost in my house."

Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach, emailed: "It's all very well Beale taking about a big rebuild and getting rid of the deadwood and bringing in seven or eight new players ,many out of contract with their club others at bargain basement prices.

"Souness had to do a similar rebuild, but look at the quality he brought to Ibrox, several were top class English internationals including one of the best defenders and toughest, a world class Terry Butcher. Those players helped bring the good times back at Ibrox but it won't happen with Beale bringing in a lot of unknown mediocre players."

Stephen Ward, Milngavie, emailed: "So Michael Beale is set to rebuild Rangers again. How is he going to fund it? Big Dave has taken his cash for Krugerrand and Dougie has spent his on some new buses. Look forward to another share issue this summer."

Neil Renton, Edinburgh, said: "Rangers must be gutted nothing ever came of the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid wanting to sign Alfredo Morelos. He’s so much of a spectator you’re more likely to find him on the season ticket list at Ibrox than the team sheet."

Paddy Gowans emailed: "They are all on about Kent and Morelos' display against Celtic, but surely the blame must be with Beale he picked two non triers when he could halved pick two guys who would have bust a gut to be on the park."

But Jimmy Mac, Glasgow, is backing Beale, saying: "All the c*** about Mick Beale not good enough is paranoia, the faults lie at the feet of those who have/are resigning Park, Wilson and Robertson, for they alone let Celtic off the floor after knocking them down under Gerrard and Beale.

"Since Beale came back, two players have been brought into the team - Cantwell and Raskin. If the summer overhaul is as good as those two then we will have a team more than capable of winning the league and don't forget Celtic are only winning by a single goal against Rangers, through individual player errors."

And Joe Sneddon said: "Based on the last three meetings between the Old Firm the gap is a fag paper and a half decent striker. Not, as some delusional Celtic fans believe, as wide as the Grand Canyon."

John Stuart emailed: "I had to laugh at John Caw’s and Gary Stevenson’s Hotline comments. So Rangers' predicament is Don Robertson’s fault ....if he had been ‘fair’ and awarded a free kick to Celtic they maybe wouldn’t have scored? You are maybe half right John...Robertson was unfair and it backfired on him.

"The red, white and blue smoke from the pyros is clearly still affecting the way many Rangers fans view the new world. As Celtic go from strength to strength , their only one upmanship claim with Celtic now rests with their misplaced sense of entitlement."

Dr Robert Pender emailed: "The chants from some Celtic fans re the Coronation was poor. Everyone has a right to their opinion but this behaviour is the lowest of the low. Come on Celtic board, sort it out."
