Michael Beale is Rangers excuse generator and most fun is guessing what rookie boss will say next – Hotline

Michael Beale is under pressure to get a first win over Celtic in Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final.

That’s the message which seems to be coming from the Ibrox support as they look ahead to Hampden. Celtic are hunting a Treble and defeat for Rangers last weekend at Aberdeen, along with some of Beale’s chat after the game in the Granite City, has not impressed some on the Hotline.

Gerard Kelly said: “Beale needs to learn that his own fans are now seeing him for what he is and are sick of his excuses. He is just embarrassing himself as soon as he opens his mouth. All talk, no action. Same at QPR! Just admit your team lacked quality and Aberdeen were the better side. Let’s see what excuse he comes away with this time if he gets beat on Sunday.”

James Kennedy, Kilsyth, said: “Mick Beale is a rookie manager with a lot to say. Rangers are a massive club who have made the mistake, not for the first time lately, of employing the wrong man to manage their ailing football club. By taking the job, Beale has bitten off more than he can chew.”

Bud Hay, Dumfries, said: “Nearly choked on my Rice Krispies. Beale building a team to play in Europe? He wants to try to build a team to stop Celtic first as the next game will be sacked if he doesn’t beat the champions first.”

Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach, said: “A real shambles at Pittodrie, the worst Rangers side I’ve watched all season couldn’t score with plenty of chances. Surely Beale’s priority must be to sign decent replacement goalscorers for the new season and you don’t need to search very far, you’ve got two right on your doorstep. Laurence Shankland and a impressive Kevin van Veen both look top notch, any one of them would be great at Ibrox and not cost big money. Spending £5 million for Malik Tillman is foolish.”

Ex-Rangers striker Kris Boyd says Celtic are certs for a Treble if they win the semi, but William Laing said: “Surely that’s a bit disrespectful to Falkirk and Inverness?”

Chris Lowe, Yoker, isn’t impressed by the appointment of Willie Collum to referee Sunday’s clash. He said: “Can’t believe Collum has got the gig.

Referee Willie Collum (SNS Group)

"A man who ensured Rangers went to Parkhead two points behind with the incorrect sending off of John Lundstram at Hibs and then turned a blind eye to Killie’s stonewall penalty in the semi against Celtic. Willie is going for his own treble of mistakes.”

Sam Morton, Edinburgh, had a view of Rangers being annoyed at some fan behaviour which took place at Pittodrie last weekend. He said: “Rangers are rightly upset at Aberdeen fans for some tasteless chants on Sunday, but where was their outrage when their own fans ruined not one but two tributes to Ron Gordon by singing sectarian songs?”

Neil Renton, Edinburgh, wasn’t that excited about the announcement for the post-split fixtures in the Scottish Premiership. He said: “It says something about the state of Scottish football when the most exciting thing about the split is waiting on the fixtures being announced.”

Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, doesn’t think too much of recent suggestions that Ange Postecoglou is on the list of potential Chelsea managers. He said: “The rumour mill has it big Ange going to manage Chelsea. More chance of him managing the Chelsea pensioners or the Chelsea flower show.”

Looking further afield, Alan Lough, Dunbar, had a a smile about Cristiano Ronaldo losing a game in the Middle East. He said: “Ronaldo is having a great time of it in Saudi Arabia proving Erik ten Hag wrong in getting rid of him. There’s a joke in there somewhere.”
