Michael Beale holds talks with English side amid Gerrard Rangers return links

Former Rangers manager Michael Beale has held talks over becoming the new boss of Hull City, according to a report.

With Steven Gerrard potentially closing in on a return to Rangers, it looks like his former right-hand may not make the move with him if the appointment happens.

That's because Hull Live is claiming Beale has been interviewed by Tigers chiefs as they look to fill their own vacancy in the English Championship.

And it is claimed the 44-year-old impressed owner Acun Ilicali during discussions on Monday. However, he is still looking to speak to further candidates before making a decision.

Hull have already spoken to a list of contenders following the sacking of Ruben Selles.

Beale originally came to Scotland to be Gerrard's assistant coach at Rangers and impressed many at the club with his work on the training pitch and in the dugout.

Betting suspended on Steven Gerrard to Rangers return

He moved on to Aston Villa with the manager but eventually left to be his own man at QPR. After an up-and-down time in London he was the man Gers wanted to replace Giovanni van Bronckhorst and ended up in the top job their.

That didn't work out and Beale ended up being sacked, taking on the Sunderland job a short time after.

But another tumultuous rein ended he then worked for a short time with Gerrard at Saudi Pro League side Al-Ettifaq.

It would be interesting to see if Gerrard would bring his trusted lieutenant back to Ibrox with him but that may not even be an option if he lands the Hill gig.

Gerrard is reportedly set for talks with Rangers over the next 48 hours as they look to make a decision and an appointment by the end of this week. Former Ibrox and Scotland defender Russell Martin is also in the running.
