Michael Beale hails Rangers support 'outstanding' as he delivers Celtic Old Firm derby assessment

Michael Beale has hailed the Ibrox crowd as 'outstanding' as he picked up his first win over Celtic as Rangers boss.

The Light Blues gaffer picked up his first win over Ange Postecoglou at the fifth attempt with a comfortable 3-0 win in the Ibrox sunshine thanks to goals from Todd Cantwell, John Souttar and Fashion Sakala. It was a sell-out crowd in Govan of home fans and the noise from the stands provided that 'extra energy' to motivate the 11 bodies on the park.

Cantwell fired home after just five minutes as his low drive went through the legs of Joe Hart after he pushed away a John Lundstram effort. Souttar headed home from a James Tavernier corner to make it two before half-time before a mix-up between Callum McGregor and Carl Starfelt was pounced on by Sakala who raced through on goal, before rounding the Celtic No. 1 and rolling the ball into an empty net.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, the Rangers boss said: "I thought the crowd pushed for it, the crowd were outstanding at the start of the game and that gave the team extra energy on top of the motivation that we gave each other.

"I thought we started the game really well, we took a chance to similar ones that we have missed in two big games against Celtic this year, so we got off to a good start.

"I thought in the first 15 minutes both teams went hell for leather, and that is what this fixture is known for. I thought the big moments today went for us, whilst in the other big games this season they've gone for Celtic.

"We've made mistakes and they've punished us, we've had chances and we've missed them. Today, they had a chance and hit the post, and we punished them for the third goal."
