Michael Beale branded Rangers cheap option but Ibrox punters have 25 point reminder for Celtic fans – Hotline

Michael Beale has swept into power at Rangers and immediately made an impression with his opening words. However, if the majority of the Rangers supporters are getting excited about the appointment, they chose to avoid the Hotline .

Instead, the majority of correspondence cast doubts on whether Beale will be able to turn around Rangers’ fortunes. Eddie Easson, Ballingry , set the ball rolling whe he said: “The Rangers board, this could well be their last throw of the dice. The appointment of Beale is fraught with danger. No.2’s very rarely make great No.1’s. A novice who wasn’t cutting it in the English Championship. Welcome to The Last Chance Saloon.”

In fairness, Walter Smith did all right...

Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, said: “Although Michael Beale has had a very brief time as a manager, he is lauded as being such an exciting and talented young coach. But I remember Stephen Glass and Shaun Maloney having a similar profile and didn’t last a season. It’s blindingly obvious Rangers couldn’t attract a higher standard candidate for the job because of lack of funds to spend in the transfer market. And anyone who believes differently is kidding themselves on.”

Neil Renton, Edinburgh, said: “Rangers have taken a massive gamble in appointing Beale as their new manager. They needed someone with experience to take on Celtic. Instead they’ve gone the cheap route to appointment their former number two. They better hope he doesn’t turn the team into a bunch of number twos.”

Henry Moffat, Stirling, added: “When Micheal Beale knocked back the Wolves job he thought he was going to be the next big thing after a decent nine games. Five bad games later and with reality setting in and fans on his back, he realised he wasn’t and was on a downward spiral, so did a runner at the first sign of pressure. This is not the sign of a strong manager.”

Paddy Gowans emailed to say: “Another Rangers manager blowing hot air saying his team is going to do this and that before a ball is kicked. Let the results do the talking.”

Michael Emonds, Northampton, had a message for Hotline caller George Wilson as he said: “George should lay off whatever he’s on it’s getting him all confused. He says many people and Celtic supporters in particular are talking down the appointment of Beale. Did he not hear his very own Ally McCoist say he gives the appointment of Beale a 6 out of 10 score on excitement level? I would have thought that Mr Wilson would have taken more notice of Ally’s opinion than a few Celtic supporters on the Hotline .”

But Ian McKendrick was one who did hit back in support of Beale and sent a message which read: “Can I remind the Celtic fans it was Beale who stopped ten in a row. Not Gerrard. And by 25 points.”

And Frank McFerran, Carrickfergus, said: “All this down talk about Beale from Celtic minded pundits is boring. Rangers are paying his wages. Let them be the judge whether he good enough or not.”

Beale’s first opponent in competitive action will be Hibs and John Scott, Grassmoor, isn’t delighted at the noises coming out of Easter Road. He said: “Obviously Lee Johnson is a half glass full kind of guy. Why else would he think the Hibees defence will not need strengthened in January even if Ryan Porteous leaves? Lee, the defence needs to be strengthened with Ryan Porteous in the team. Has he looked at how many soft goals we’ve conceded from headers? Maybe he hasn’t noticed, given he’s covering his eyes like the Hibs support do every time a ball is crossed into our box.”

Meanwhile, Alan Lough, Dunbar, wasn’t happy at Cristiano Ronaldo’s attempts to pinch a goal against Uruguay at the World Cup. He said: “It takes a narcissistic numpty like Ronaldo to jump for a header, get no contact on the ball and take the credit. I’m so delighted my beloved Man Utd got rid of this spoiled brat.”
