Michael Beale addresses Tom Davies transfer rumours as Everton midfielder linked with Rangers move

Rangers manager Michael Beale has refused to rule out a move for Tom Davies amid rumours he is hoping to take the Everton man up to Glasgow.

Beale confirmed on Friday that he and the Scottish club had held positive talks with unnamed targets, sharing his excitement at potentially bolstering his squad in the coming days ahead of a busy second-half of the season.

One of several players linked with a move to Ibrox has been Davies, with the 24-year-old not first-choice under Frank Lampard. The midfielder has only started five games all season, the last two coming in arguably Everton's worst two performances of the season - 4-1 defeats against both Bournemouth and Brighton.

Asked about Davies and Norwich City's Todd Cantwell, Beale said: “No names but I think they are both good players to be fair. Todd [Cantwell] was an excellent player when he was young and playing against my Liverpool Under 23s.

“I thought he would go on and have a fantastic career. He had that at the start and he is maybe just looking for a move to re-ingite it but I think he is a fantastic player at a good age.

“And Tom Davies, he used to kick my Liverpool Under 23s team all around the place. There’s a bit of John Lundstram about him. But again, two really good players.

“Not confirming anything with those two. But there’s a lot of players we are speaking to at the moment."

Davies' contract at Everton is set to run out in June, with little inclination that negotiations are underway for an extension at this stage. And while Frank Lampard insisted his side do not need to sell players in order to buy this month, the recent termination of Salomon Rondon's contract suggests an attempt to free up wages.

One development that could keep Davies on Merseyside is the recent injury to Alex Iwobi, with the Blues confirming on Sunday that the Nigerian international will be sidelined for around three weeks after suffering an ankle ligament injury in Friday's 3-1 FA Cup defeat at Manchester United.
