Michael Barrymore set to make TV comeback 18 years after house party guest death

Michael Barrymore could make a TV comeback on Dancing on Ice, it was reported last night.

The presenter 67, is ready to rebuild his career, which was derailed when party guest Stuart Lubbock died in his swimming pool in 2001.

ITV bosses believe he can boost ratings like Gemma Collins, a favourite with viewers on the last series hosted by Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.

A TV source told the Sun: “Michael has always been TV gold and show chiefs appreciate there’s still a huge amount of interest in him.

“There’s no doubting he’ll be hilarious on the ice.”

In his 80s heyday Michael was host of Strike It Lucky. In 2006 he came second on Celebrity Big Brother .

On Piers Morgan’s Life Stories in June he apologised for Stuart’s death, over which he was never charged.

He also revealed a suicide attempt while in rehab.

He has since said: “I feel it is the right time and place (to return) but it is not for me to decide. I can’t give myself work.”

Michael came out as gay in 1995 and split from wife Cheryl in 1997. He lives with his dog, Dave.

ITV said: “Any names linked to Dancing on Ice 2020 are pure speculation. We will be confirming our line-up in due course.”
