Michael Barrymore's 'dark side' as a 'master manipulator' to be exposed in TV doc

Michael Barrymore's "dark side" as "master manipulator" will be exposed in a new TV documentary, according to Stuart Lubbock's dad.

Terry Lubbock, 74, has spoken out ahead of the launch of new Channel 4 series Barrymore: The Body in the Pool.

Stuart Lubbock, 31, was found dead in the swimming pool outside Barrymore's Essex home in 2001.

It later emerged that there had been a drug-fuelled party at the house the night before, and a post-mortem examination showed Stuart had been sexually assaulted prior to his death.

Terry has spent years fighting for justice on behalf of his son, and believes the former Strike It Lucky host hasn't told the full story.

He told The Sun: "He’s a clever man. He is a master manipulator, there’s two sides to that man, a dark side and the side you see on television.

"Over the years I’ve had a glimpse of his dark side, I think it’s time that everyone sees that side to him.

"I hope that the penny will drop with everyone and they will question him and what he did that night. The police should have nailed it. He needs to put whoever killed my son in the spotlight."

Barrymore: The Body in the Pool kicks off this Thursday and will go over the whole case in detail.

It will feature the 999 call made from Barrymore's home after Stuart's body was found in the pool, and a plea for information from police officer who are reexamining the case.

At the end of the show, a statement from Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Stephen Jennings, declared: "In the belief that loyalties have changed. They hope new witnesses will now come forward."

Meat factory worker Stuart had been a guest at a drug-fuelled party at Barrymore's home, and police initially accepted he'd drowned after a night of heavy boozing and taking cocaine and ecstacy.

However, the case flipped when a post-mortem found Lubbock, from Harlow, Essex, had suffered severe internal injuries from a sexual assault and died from cardiac arrest.

Police subsequently launched a murder investigation.

There was little progress in the case until 2007 - when Barrymore, 67,  was arrested on suspicion of murder and rape.

The telly star spent 36 hours in the cells before being released.

He strenuously denied the allegations, and the police probe was dropped three months later due to insufficient evidence.

Barrymore was never charged.
