Michael Ballack has explained why Timo Werner was right to snub Liverpool for Chelsea.
The Blues completed the signing of RB Leipzig forward, subject to a medical, last month.
The Germany international has agreed a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge and becomes Chelsea's second signing of the summer after Ajax's Hakim Ziyech.
Chelsea have agreed to pay €50m (£45m) to trigger the release clause of Werner, who is set to earn more than €10m (£9m) per season in England.
The Blues are believed to have beaten Liverpool in the queue to sign one of the most highly-coveted young forwards in world football.
And Ballack believes Werner has made the right decision in snubbing Jurgen Klopp’s side and that Chelsea is the club for him.
“If Liverpool was really an option for him, he made the best decision for him, and only he can make that decision,” he told i via The Express.
“You have to value certain things, like how much playing time you will get and how important a role in the squad you will have.
“Liverpool have won the Champions League and Premier League.
“How could Timo expect to come into that front three and start every week in place of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino or Sadio Mane?
“Chelsea are building a young team, a new team, with a young coach. It is a great project to be part of, given how young Timo is.
“To be the main striker, at a huge club like Chelsea, is the best place for him. He can have a much bigger impact than he could at Liverpool."
