Michael Badgley joins the Jim Rome show to speak on embracing pressures as a kicker & his mentality on game-winners

The Chargers found their kicker in 2018. It was far from conventional, but they found him. The rookie out of the University of Miami missed one field goal and one extra point all year. That’s what you want. Talk about a breath of fresh air for a team that felt like it was 50/50 when they would send a kicker out.

Badgley joined the Jim Rome show to talk about some of the pressures of being a kicker in the NFL as well as his mentality on being sent out when the pressure is on him the most. Here were some of the highlights:

Rome: How much mental training goes into this?

Badgley: You’ve got to embrace stuff like that. You’ve got to want to pressure. You have to know that there are going to be misses. To be able to get over those situations is what kind of makes and breaks you.

Badgley also went on to describe how it was like trying out for the Chargers. He actually tried out for the Raiders a week before and they didn’t bring him on. From there, Badgley beat out three players and the rest was history. Check out the rest of the interview below:
