Michael B. Jordan's War Drama A Journal For Jordan Critiqued

Based on true story of soldier in Iraq keeping journal for son.

Michael B. Jordan's under-the-radar 2021 movie, 'A Journal for Jordan,' directed by Denzel Washington, is based on the true story of a soldier deployed in Iraq who keeps a journal for his infant son. Despite the star power of Jordan and Washington, the film had a lackluster reception, grossing only $6.7 million on a $25 million budget.

However, the movie has received praise for its depiction of war scenes, particularly from Iraq War veteran Jay Dorleus. Dorleus commended the film for its accuracy in portraying the realities of war in Iraq, giving it a seven-out-of-ten rating for its depiction of an IED explosion scene.

In the scene discussed by Dorleus, the IED was placed on the side of the road and triggered using command detonation. He explained the tactics used by insurgents in Iraq to target military vehicles and highlighted the evolving techniques employed to evade detection.

'A Journal for Jordan' was released on Christmas Day in 2021 and was anticipated as a potential awards contender for Jordan. However, the film received a 39% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating a lukewarm critical reception.

Despite the film's shortcomings, the collaboration between Jordan and Washington holds promise for future projects. With Jordan venturing into directing with 'Creed 3,' there is speculation about potential future collaborations between the two talented actors.

As 'A Journal for Jordan' is available for streaming on Hulu, viewers have the opportunity to judge the film for themselves. While it may have fallen short of expectations, there is hope that both Jordan and Washington will have the chance to redeem themselves in future endeavors.

Overall, 'A Journal for Jordan' may have missed the mark critically and commercially, but it has sparked discussions about the potential for future collaborations between its stars and the possibility of them sharing the screen as co-stars in upcoming projects.
