Michael and Amber's Love Island break-up episodes spark more than 200 Ofcom complaints

Love Island viewers sent more than 200 complaints to Ofcom after watching two episodes featuring Michael and Amber's messy break-up.

Michael and Gateshead beauty technician Amber had a blazing row after Michael dumped her to couple up with new girl Joanna on Tuesday.

Last night, the trio came face to face, as Amber returned from Casa Amor to find Michael stood with Joanna.

During an argument, Michael called Amber 'a child' and 'pathetic'. He also accused Amber of failing to open up to him, but fellow islander Anna defended Amber and claimed Michael has twisted the truth about their romance to justify his choice to pair up with a new islander.

Viewers on social media accused Michael of 'gaslighting' - which means psychologically manipulating somebody to the point where they question their memory or sanity.

One tweeted: "If anyone wants to know the meaning of gaslighting, please flick through the dictionary and find tonight’s episode of Love Island and look for Michael."

Ofcom confirmed it has received 196 complaints about last night's Love Island episode and another 36 from viewers who watched Tuesday's show.

An Ofcom spokesperson told ChronicleLive: “We will assess these complaints against our broadcasting rules, but are yet to decide whether or not to investigate.”

While Amber tried to maintain a brave face, she broke down on the day beds talking to Ovie.

She said: "I don't have to speak to him anymore.

"What am I suppose to say, he said 'I knew you'd laugh.' Do you want me to break down in front of everyone?

"His whole attitude and demeanor has totally changed and if that's really him then I'm disappointed."

ChronicleLive has contacted ITV for comment.
