Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards has said that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does not have the "credentials" to continue as Manchester United manager.
Richards made the admission after watching United fall to a fourth defeat in their last six Premier League outings at the hands of cross-city rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime.
United, who produced another flat and lifeless display, found themselves 2-0 down at half time, thanks to an own-goal from Eric Bailly and a close-range finish from Bernardo Silva. City saw out the game comfortably in the second half.
And less than a fortnight on from the 5-0 battering at the hands of Liverpool, United's performance has caused huge concern among fans and piled the pressure onto boss Solskjaer.
A growing number of United supporters are urging the club to make a change.
Despite frequently defending the Norwegian, Richards has hinted that a change may be required to turn United's fortunes around.
"I'm not saying the manager should be sacked," Richards told Sky Sports. "In fact, I've protected Ole since he got in the job and he's a legend of the club, but managers get sacked for these sorts of performances.
"Every time we come to Man United it's the players, or [Paul] Pogba’s not running, or [Victor] Lindelof. At the end of the day, the manager’s at the helm he goes out and tells the players what to do.
"Performances like this against Man City and Liverpool are not good enough. Yes, it might start from the very top but the manager works day-in, day-out with the players.
"[Donny] Van de Beek- the fans are clapping him when he comes on the pitch.
"I would never say sack a manager because it isn't right, but what I'm seeing from the standard of Manchester United is not good enough.
"Let’s be real about the situation. Coming into a club of this stature, of course they (other managers) could do a better job. Let’s have it right.
"We like Ole because he's a great guy, he’s a legend of the club, but he's not got the credentials."
