Micah Richards explains why Man City's failure to sign Harry Kane won't cost them dearly

Micah Richards has played down fears that Manchester City will struggle to score goals after failing to add Harry Kane to their ranks during the summer transfer window.

City, who face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in a huge Premier League encounter on Saturday lunchtime, were desperate to add Kane to their squad during the summer transfer window, in an effort to combat the loss of Sergio Aguero.

Despite being hot on his and Tottenham's heels throughout the summer, City were unable to meet the north London club's demands, resulting in him staying at put.

Although City were toothless against Leicester City in the Community Shield and Tottenham and Southampton in the league so far this season, the five matches they have scored in have seen them score 23 goals, including 12 in their last two home games.

Despite that, some fans and pundits have questioned whether or not City are going to have enough firepower within their ranks.

Richards, however, has no concerns at all that the failure to add Kane to Pep Guardiola's squad will impact their ability to score goals.

The former City right-back told Sky Sports : "No, they're not struggling. Obviously, with the hangover of not getting Harry Kane, people are going to say that.

"But Jack Grealish has been in good form, Phil Foden's back and we saw what Foden could do [Tuesday] in the Carabao Cup.

"Kevin De Bruyne is back fit now as well. So the goals will come, I am not worried about that."

Delivering a contrasting view to Richards, former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino believes City's failure to land a striker could prove to be costly.

He told talkSPORT : "They have played seven games this season - in the Premier League, Champions League Community Shield - and in three of them they haven't scored.

"They lost to Tottenham 1-0, they lost to Leicester 1-0 and they drew 0-0 at the weekend. In between that, they have blown away RB Leipzig, Arsenal and Norwich, so they are very capable of getting five or six. But not scoring in three out of seven is telling you that that is going to come at a price.

"That is why I make my argument on why he wanted a centre-forward. Let's get this right, they did make a big offer for Harry Kane. OK, it wasn't enough and they didn't get it completed"
