Miami (1-2) vs. Central Michigan (2-1) Game Preview

Why Central Michigan Will Win

The Miami offensive line continues to have issues. The running game is just okay, but there’s still way too much pressure allowed in the backfield and way too many hits on QB Jarren Williams.

Third down conversions are a mega-problem against the real teams – Bethune-Cookman doesn’t count – and Central Michigan has a pass rush. The defensive front is great at getting behind the line, and it has to do it from the start to get the Miami offense off the field.

With a week off ahead before dealing with Virginia Tech – and coming off the Bethune-Cookman game – there’s a real chance for a team-wide letdown here by the Canes. CMU has to take advantage, but …

Why Miami Will Win

This is one banged up Chippewa team.

Not only did CMU get blown out by Wisconsin, but QB Quinten Dormady and RB Jonathan Ward got hurt by knee and shoulder injuries, respectively.

David Moore was terrific against Akron with 316 passing yards and two scores, and Kobe Lewis went off with 146 yards and three scores, but the depth is missing now – along with two of the team’s best players.

Miami isn’t Akron.

Even under all of the pressure, Jarren Williams keeps on getting better. After being shockingly named the starter before the season, he’s proving Manny Diaz right hitting 73% of his passes for 777 yards and six scores and no picks. Central Michigan’s secondary is getting hit hard, allowing close to 300 yards per game – this is when Williams can stack the stats a bit more before getting a little time off.

What’s Going To Happen

Miami will be able to do just about anything it wants to offensively. The goal is to tune up the O line a bit and use this for a scrimmage as much as possible, but even with the injuries, the Chippewas might just have enough talent to push the Miami defense just a little bit. The Canes roll at home.
