Miami shooting: Students among seven people shot at park in 'mass casualty' incident

Teenagers are understood to be among at least seven people shot at a US park in what has been described as a "mass casualty" incident.

Miami Fire and Rescue reported at 6.38pm local time on Sunday seven victims had been shot at West Little River Park in 105th Street NW 24 Ave.

The park is overlooked by the Dr. Henry W. Mack/West Little River K- 8 Center school.

A police CSI vehicle was photographed at the scene as investigations continue.

Miami-Dade Police Department director Alfredo Ramirez III said: "My officers are on the scene of another tragic shooting involving juveniles. This type of gun violence has to end. We must work together as a community."

Talk show host Andy Slater tweeted: "At least seven people, including teenagers, were shot at Little River Park in Miami, law enforcement sources tell me."

Miami-Dade Police tweeted "officers are already on the scene", adding: "#MDPD PIO is responding to a scene of a shooting with multiple victims in the area of 10525 NW 25 Avenue."

It is unclear the severity of any injuries or whether any of the victims has died.

The shooter is reportedly still "active".

Police said the incident is still under investigation and that no other details were immediately available, the Miami Herald reports.

Anyone with information is urged to contact 305-471-8477. All callers will remain anonymous.

It comes after a burglary suspect was reportedly shot and killed by police outside the county's Homestead Government Center earlier in the day.

While three people were injured in another shooting in Miami on Saturday.

City of Miami Police said that shooting happened near Northwest Second Avenue and 18th Street on Saturday night.

Investigators said paramedics transported two men to Ryder Trauma Center in serious condition, while another victim drove himself to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
