Miami’s rookie pass catchers have tough minicamp ahead

Any rookie receivers hoping to make the 2019 Miami Dolphins will have a tough time making a positive first impression this weekend during the team’s rookie minicamp. Regardless of how smooth former Colorado State receiver Preston Williams runs his routes, there’s still the matter of catching the football to worry about. The Dolphins are expected to bring two passers into minicamp — Western Illinois’ Sean McGuire and Miami’s Malik Rosier. Getting easy passes to catch may be a problem.

Rosier is the latest announced participant in the Dolphins’ rookie minicamp, which starts tomorrow and runs through the weekend. Yanked in and out of the starting lineup for much of his senior season with the Hurricanes, Rosier has been a player who has struggled greatly to find any level of consistency in college.

With a 53.3% completion percentage, Rosier carries accuracy concerns that will be difficult for him to shake. And on a team that features Ryan Fitzpatrick, Josh Rosen and Jake Rudock, it’s difficult to envision a pathway for Rosier to make the Dolphins — he’ll have to treat this weekend like a tryout for other teams and hope word of mouth can help land him a look elsewhere.

Having Rosier on his A-game will help others who can make this team, though. The heavy lifting to make the Dolphins will come in training camp, but any positive first impression can help.
