With a stunning 89–75 upset over No. 1 Houston on Friday, No. 5 Miami is now locked in as one of the eight teams who will keep dancing in the men’s NCAA tournament this weekend. And, apparently, the upset win inspired coach Jim Larrañaga to get in on the theme.
Following the Hurricanes’ historic Sweet 16 win, CBS cameras caught a classic moment in the Miami locker room showing Larrañaga breaking out some hilarious dance moves as his players cheered him on. Judging by the brief clip, Larrañaga, Miami’s coach since 2011, was feeling pretty good about the fact that his squad clinched its second-straight Elite Eight berth.
The viral clip of Larrañaga’s dance moves is sure to go down as one of the top highlights of the weekend. And given the circumstances surrounding Friday’s lopsided win, it’s very easy to see why the 73-year-old couldn’t contain his excitement.
Behind a standout 26-point effort by sophomore guard Nijel Pack, Miami cruised past Houston, and made NCAA history in the process. The Cougars’ loss, combined with No. 1 Alabama’s loss just minutes earlier, marks the first time ever that an Elite Eight will not feature any No. 1 seeds.
With the Sweet 16 now in the books, the Hurricanes and Larrañaga will only have less than 48 hours to strut their stuff before setting their sights on a Sunday showdown against the winner of Friday’s matchup between No. 3 Xavier and No. 2 Texas.
