Miami’s Goran Dragic suffers plantar tear in foot, return not yet ruled out

As if going down by 32 points and losing by 18 in the first game of the NBA Finals wasn’t enough of a bad night for the Miami Heat, their leading scorer in the postseason coming into the Finals suffered an injury that sounds pretty painful in the ugly loss. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported after the Lakers beat the Heat in Game 1 of the NBA Finals that Miami’s starting point guard Goran Dragic, who left the game with a left foot injury, suffered a tear of the plantar fascia of his left foot. However, despite how painful that sounds, Woj reports that Dragic hasn’t ruled out returning to play in the series.

After Dragic went to the locker room to be evaluated, Kendrick Nunn finished the game with a flurry of 18 points on 8 of 11 shooting. Nunn played and started in 67 games for the Heat this season, earning Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month three times throughout the regular season. While he has rarely played, odds are he will likely be called upon to play more than he has in the playoffs, even if Dragic can return to the series at some point. The Heat will also need a much better performance from Tyler Herro if they are going to get on the board in this series.

Meanwhile, x-rays on the shoulder of Bam Adebayo were negative, according to ESPN’s Malika Andrews, and the team did not announce yet whether he will be undergoing further evaluation. If he doesn’t, we will likely see him back on the floor for the Heat in Game 2.
