Miami logs two of five highest known signing bonuses for AAF contracts

As if we needed any additional proof that the targeting of top talents from the now defunct Alliance of American Football were a wise move for the Dolphins, some of the signing bonus figures are in for their contracts. The numbers are, unsurprisingly, minuscule in the grand scheme of the salary cap.

It has been reported by the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero that the Miami Dolphins have logged two of the highest known signing bonuses handed out to AAF talents — and that the combined total was just $65,000.

The bonuses in question are those of pass rusher Jayrone Elliott and linebacker Tyrone Holmes.

Elliott’s signing bonus was tied for the second highest of any AAF player — $50,000. With an additional $25,000 of guaranteed money added in, Elliott equalled the cash given to quarterback Garrett Gilbert as the most expensive AAF signing across the league.

Holmes’ deal gave him a $15,000 signing bonus. This could be indicative that Miami plans to host both of these players on the roster at the start of the season. But if things don’t work out, Miami cost themselves essentially nothing for a few young defenders.

That’s smart business.
