Miami, FSU, UCF land in coaches' top 25 poll; Alabama No. 1

Miami earned a top-10 spot in the preseason Amway Coaches Poll released Thursday by USA Today with Florida State and Central Florida also finding their way into the top-25 rankings.

The Hurricanes wound up at No. 8 after coming off a 10-3 season.

The Seminoles and new coach Willie Taggart were No. 19 while UCF found the No. 23 spot following a perfect 13-0 season. It's the first time in program history that the Knights have been ranked in the top 25 to start a season.

Defending national champion Alabama earned 61 first-place votes to take the No. 1 spot followed by Clemson (3 first-place votes), Ohio State (1) and Georgia.

Oklahoma, Washington, Wisconsin, Miami, Penn State and Auburn round out the top 10.

Florida was just outside of the rankings, finishing with 135 votes behind another SEC East team in South Carolina (138 votes).

The voting panel consists of 65 active Football Bowl Subdivision coaches including Alabama's Nick Saban, Clemson's Dabo Swinney and Texas A&M's Jimbo Fisher with participants chosen randomly from members of the American Football Coaches Association.
