Miami Dolphins sign linebacker Nick DeLuca

The Miami Dolphins are looking to up the ante at yet another position group this summer as they close in on their first preseason game of the 2019 season. After cutting punter Stone Wilson, the Dolphins filled the roster spot by signing 2018 NFL Draft prospect Nick DeLuca, a linebacker out of North Dakota State.

DeLuca, who went undrafted during the 2018 draft, spent time last season with the Jacksonville Jaguars — actually starting twice in nine total games played.

For the Dolphins, DeLuca will look to press for time as a depth defender. Make no mistake — the Dolphins primary roles are going to feature a lot of Jerome Baker, Kiko Alonso and Raekwon McMillan. So DeLuca’s pathway to make the 2019 roster will need to include either a niche role in coverage or as a special teams contributor.
