Miami Dolphins sign former Georgia Bulldogs DL

The Miami Dolphins have signed former Chicago Bears defensive lineman John Jenkins, who played college football at the University of Georgia.

John Jenkins is returning to Miami on a one-year deal. Jenkins is entering NFL season No. 10 in 2021. The newest Miami defensive lineman has played for the New Orleans Saints (2013-2016), Seattle Seahawks, Chicago Bears, Miami Dolphins and New York Giants throughout his career.

Last season, John Jenkins recorded 21 tackles for Chicago. He came up with a critical forced fumble in the postseason, but the Bears ultimately fell short against the New Orleans Saints.

At 6 feet, 3 inches and 330 pounds, John Jenkins will help the Dolphins stop the run in 2021. Jenkins only has 2.5 career sacks, so he is not a third-down defensive lineman. John Jenkins last played for the Miami Dolphins in 2019.

Here is what Dolphins Wire had to say about the addition of big John Jenkins:

Jenkins’ signing is significant for another reason, too. It officially makes him the elder-statesman of the Dolphins’ roster. At 31 years of age, Jenkins is the only Dolphins player under contract over the age of 30. The demand for Jenkins in 2021, presuming he makes the active roster, figures to be low thanks to the presence of players like Christian Wilkins, Zach Sieler, Raekwon Davis and Adam Butler. But an experienced insurance policy is a great thing to have up front in the trenches nonetheless.
