Miami Dolphins select Clemson DT Christian Wilkins 13th overall

With the 13th pick in the 2018 NFL draft, the Miami Dolphins select Clemson DT Christian Wilkins.

Wilkins is one of the draft’s safest picks, and gives the Dolphins a lot of versatility along the defensive line. Wilkins is 6’4″, 315 pounds and draws comparisons to NFL great Gerald McCoy. In his four-year career at Clemson, Wilkins played in 55 games, made 192 tackles (40.5 for a loss), and 16 tackles. He also deflected 15 passes and recovered four fumbles.

Wilkins is also one of the most athletic DTs in this draft, managing to actually run the ball in for touchdowns on offense twice on the one-yard line. He’s also incredibly smart, having gotten his undergraduate degree in Communications Studies from Clemson in December 2017.

He’s been honored many times in his collegiate career, including being named a three-time All-American (2016-18), a finalist for the Bronco Nagurski Trophy in 2016, winner of the Bill Wills Trophy in 2017, the William V. Campbell Trophy in 2018, and the ACC Jim Tatum Trophy in 2018.

He helped anchor the defense for two national championship teams in 2016 and 2018, and should instantly offer great help for the Miami defense. Now, the question is, how will the Dolphins address the rest of the draft with glaring needs still on the OL.
