The last time Miami Dolphins fans saw wide receiver Allen Hurns, he was crumpled onto the turf at AT&T Stadium in Dallas — the victim of a bone crunching hit that delivered a concussion and has cost Hurns nearly two full games of action. But now, thanks to the Dolphins’ Week 5 bye, it sounds as though Hurns is on the cusp of returning to action for the Dolphins.
Hurns has been removed from the concussion protocol, the best sign yet that Hurns’ road to recovery is going well and that we’ll see the former Cowboys receiver back on the field for Miami sooner rather than later.
For the Dolphins, adding Hurns back to the receiving rotation would help keep the team’s Week 6 opponent in Washington on their toes — Miami’s passing offense primarily runs through WRs Preston Williams and DeVante Parker but Hurns running vertical routes can provide an element teams need to be wary off. Remember, Hurns once averaged over 16 yards per catch en route to a 1,000 yard receiving season with the Jacksonville Jaguars back in 2015. Last season in Dallas, Hurns averaged nearly 15 yards per reception.
Some chunk plays would go a long way to loosening up the box for Miami’s woeful run offense in the coming weeks — and with a softer schedule over the next few weeks, the ground game sure would be helpful to keeping games close instead of finishing each week with a three score margin.
