Miami Dolphins place DB Jamal Perry on reserve/COVID-19 list

The Miami Dolphins have yet another brush with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Miami entered this week with one player, RB Matt Breida, on the reserve/COVID-19 list — but now the team is adding another. As cases of the virus slowly begin to rise across the league, the Dolphins should likely expect more reminders of the ongoing pandemic in the coming weeks. Defensive back Jamal Perry is the latest Dolphin player to be placed on the list, which the team announced yesterday afternoon.

Perry’s presumed unavailability is going to provide more of an impact to the Dolphins’ special teams units this weekend than it will the defense. Perry has logged just 15 defensive snaps since Miami’s Week 7 bye. But the team will still look to be prepared to take his absence in stride.

The Dolphins’ corresponding roster move for this transaction is to elevate safety Nate Holley to the active roster from the practice squad, helping fortify the Dolphins’ depth in the secondary amid some of the other bumps and bruises as the team braces to face one of the NFL’s best offenses in the Kansas City Chiefs this weekend. That will be no short order and the Dolphins will need to be ready with as many bodies as possible; which means Holley will get his chance to secure some action, especially on the special teams units.

Getting this decision made early in the week should give the Dolphins the best possible chance to ensure that they can avoid some of the communication mishaps that come from time to time with player roles on the special teams squads changing and evolving from week to week. Miami certainly can’t afford mental miscues in a game like the one they’re in for against Kansas City this weekend.
