Miami Dolphins cut defensive back Johnson Bademosi

The Miami Dolphins have parted ways with one of the players traded as a part of the Laremy Tunsil deal back in August. It was announced yesterday that Miami was cutting defensive back Johnson Bademosi — a surprising personnel move given the Dolphins’ lack of depth in the secondary as is and Bademosi’s status as a player hauled as part of the blockbuster deal for Tunsil.

Ultimately, the Dolphins still own their prized possessions from that deal — the two 1st-round picks and the 2nd-round pick that served as the foundation of a deal for the fourth year left tackle. But Bademosi had failed to really find an impact for the Dolphins, playing in four games and logging just four tackles to this point in the season.

One angle that this decision does make sense? Bademosi is 29-years old and was one of the senior members of Miami’s roster. In an evaluation year, providing snaps to a player who isn’t likely to still be on the team when Miami’s roster is actually ready to compete could be framed as counterproductive. And so now Bademosi wakes up this morning on the waiver wire, on the cusp of being able to sign with any team he’d like. If Bademosi isn’t claimed, it will be fascinating to see if he rejoins the Texans just a few months after being traded.

For the Dolphins, stay tuned for a corresponding roster move.
